Italian chef Nicola Batavia made his name at the Michelin-starred Ristorante Birichin in Turin, which opened in 1996, some 15 Years ago and currently is one of Italy’s prominent chefs. In 2010 he went on to open seaside summer pop-up, La Kava, celebrating food from its location on the shores of the Ligurian Sea. Following on from the success of his Turin restaurant, Ristorante Birichin and Nicola decided that it was time to be bringing his simple yet innovative Italian cooking to the UK's culinary capital. Recently teaming up with seasoned London restaurateur Paolo Boschi, Restaurant Casa Batavia was launched, making it Batavia’s first UK restaurant. Co-owner Paolo Boschi is no stranger to the London restaurant scene, having worked in the capital for some 40 years and combines a charismatic yet professional approach to service with a wealth of experience and knowledge of Italian cuisine. Located at 135 Kensington Church Street, Casa Batavia is spread over two floors. The ground floor includes a bar and 28 covers, while the first floor will offer private dining for 15 people. The interior of the Restaurant was designed to be “simple and elegant”, with natural colours and black and white artwork from modern Italian artists, Osvaldo Cavandoli. The private dining room is decorated with photos of Turin and books about the city. Many of the Ingredients are imported from Italy. This includes herbs such as wild fennel from the south of Italy and Castelmagno cheese from Piedmont. Different varieties of Wine from small producers in Turin (one of Italy’s food and wine capitals) are also imported to Casa Batavia in the UK. Combined with a wealth of experience in the industry and Chef Batavia’s innovative Italian cooking, Restaurant Casa Batavia transfers its passion and love for Italian food onto its Customers. |
