Ascots restaurant and Bar in London, off heaving Oxford Street, is one of London's hidden gems. You enter the beautifully-decorated Radisson Edwardian Berkshire Hotel and ascend the period staircase to Ascots' smart dining room all kitted out in wooden flooring and wood-panelled walls, big windows to let in the sunshine, and clubby modern seating.
Ascots has recently been awarded an AA rosette. Head Chef Frank Lagab confidently and deftly employs a simple approach to his classic dishes, employing fine seasonal ingredients that complement each other with real skill.
Cooking is British with an international flavour. Besides the a la carte menu, a terrific value early bird menu gives you the opportunity to refresh yourself at the end of an afternoon in town. Service is upbeat and friendly, presided over with professional finesse by Brian Kelliher.
The cocktail bar is an ideal venue to meet before dinner in the restaurant. The rich wooden panels and plush fabrics give the restaurant a traditional, yet contemporary feel.
The international wine list mainly features Italian and French labels with some intriguing bottles worth exploring. In all, Ascots is perfect for a discreet drink, a meal for two or groups of friends to gather.
