2-3 October Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe - Paris, France
The Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, a Group 1 flat horse race in France which is open to thoroughbreds aged 3 years or older was first run on Sunday 3 October 1920. It is run at Longchamp over a distance of 2,400 metres (about 1½ miles), and it is scheduled to take place each year, usually on the first Sunday in October.

Known as the "Arc", it is the most prestigious horse race in Europe, one of the most renowned international events in any sport. Its winners are regarded as champions and its roll of honour includes: Ribot, Sea Bird, Dancing Brave, Zarkava, Sea The Stars and Danedream. The world's 2nd richest horse race on turf (prize fund €4 million), after the Japan Cup. The purse for the whole weekend of the "Arc" meeting stands at €6.7 million and includes 7 races classed at Group 1 level, and 4 classed at Group 2 status. A slogan of the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, first used on a promotional poster in 2003, describes the event as "Ce n'est pas une course, c'est un monument" – "Not so much a race as a monument".

13-16 October Frieze Art Fair - Regents Park, London NW1
An international contemporary art fair that takes place every October in London's Regent's Park. The fair is staged by Amanda Sharp and Matthew Slotover, the publishers of frieze magazine. Frieze Art Fair features more than 170 contemporary art galleries, and the fair also includes specially commissioned artists’ projects, a talks programme and an artist-led education schedule.

Although staged for the purpose of selling work, the fair has become a cultural entertainment event and out of its 68,000 visitors it has been suggested that 80% attend purely to spectate.The fair also commissions artist projects and holds a programme of talks.

In 2010, Matthew Slotover, co-founder of the fair, debated whether "art fairs are about money" with Louisa Buck, Matthew Collings, and Jasper Joffe for the motion and against the motion Norman Rosenthal, Richard Wentworth, Matthew Slotover. Joffe claims that his criticisms of Frieze Art Fair led to his work being banned from the fair in 2010.

Deutsche Bank were the main sponsor of Frieze Art Fair for the 8th consecutive year.

20 October The X Factor Childline Ball – The Savoy, London WC2
The X Factor ChildLine Ball was a truly memorable night. An exciting show yet with host Dermot O'Leary and performances from last year's wonderful X Factor stars, Rebecca Ferguson and Mary Byrne.

The champagne reception in the Savoy's stunning River Room was followed by three-course dinner and a brilliant show in the splendour of the Ballroom. Carriages at 1am.

Auction prizes included: holidays in Barbados, Florida or Mexico. Tickets to see your favourite comedian on tour and the live final of The X Factor. Other brilliant prizes, include the Big Brother chair to the London 2012 Olympic Torch; from luxury handbags and shoes to spa breaks, theatre tickets and chocolate tastings. ChildLine will receive 100 per cent of the proceeds.
